At the School of Healthcare, Enterprise and Innovation, our aim is to put our people at the heart of what we do by ensuring that each individual is welcomed, supported and valued. We are focussed on creating a supportive workplace for all where discrimination has no place. The way in which you choose to live your life has no bearing on your ability to do your job.  Your age, gender, sexual preference, religion, social background, ethnicity or any other identifying factor will never be a consideration here. We are determined to always treat our staff  equally, fairly and with respect.

We believe that all can belong here, no matter their background or experiences. We aim to achieve this through ensuring diverse perspectives are valued, heard and respected. Through  collaborative working across the whole organisation, we can make sure everyone is included and can thrive and grow.

We acknowledge that as an employer we have more to do to ensure the values of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) are reflected and reinforced in everything we do. We want to  encourage all to work with us to identify barriers to inclusion and to continue to build a culture where difference is valued by everyone. We also celebrate awareness days such as World Menopause Day, International Day of People with Disabilities and much more. We think its important to highlight these in the workplace so we foster a culture where everyone feels welcome and can be themselves at work.

Our EDI activities and work link to and support the EDI strategies of both the University of Southampton and the National Institute for Health and Care Research.

Your Wellbeing

We understand that the vital work we do is only made possible by the incredible people that work for us. We aim to do as much as possible to look after our people and since 2018, this is annually independently benchmarked by our participation in Mind’s Workplace Wellbeing Index. We are committed to ensuring that our workplace is somewhere that you can bring your whole self to work.

We also know that sometimes life can happen and it can be really tough! Since 2015 we’ve had a team of qualified Mental Health First Aiders that you can talk to if you need help. We also have weekly wellbeing  resources across a range of topics to help staff take time to reflect and look after their wellbeing.

We also celebrate various awareness days, such as Mental Health Awareness Week, National Work-Life Balance Week, World Happiness Day and much more .We think it is so important to celebrate and engage with  these days to start important conversations and to enable everyone to share their lived experience.
