Melissa Evans, Employer Engagement Coordinator

“I am proud to be part of sourcing valuable work experience opportunities for our students, developing their skills and employability. I really enjoy working alongside my colleagues in Careers, Employability and Student Enterprise, as well as collaborating with academic and professional services staff across the university. My favourite element of my role is developing relationships with a variety of employers to understand different industries and to discover the variety of careers our students could develop within them. I’m looking forward to continuing my journey within the department and facilitating more internships for our students.”

Charlie Barton, Work Experience Manager

“As Work Experience Manager, I find it incredibly fulfilling to see the growth and development students achieve while applying their theoretical knowledge in a work-based setting. It’s important to me that colleagues feel supported and valued, and that they know they can come to me with any concerns or ideas they have. We have a strong sense of collaboration and belonging within the team. This productive and supportive environment is a wonderful place to work and develop. This is one of the reasons I’ve stayed for 9 years!” –

Sean Larsen, Specialist Practitioner

“Having come from a self-employed background and not having worked in academia prior to my role here at Southampton University, I was unsure whether the culture and working practices would be right for me. I am pleased to say that 4 years later I still very much enjoy every single day here in the Student Enterprise Team. Working alongside entrepreneurial students and supporting them with their own start-up journeys is incredibly rewarding.”

Nicola King, Career Consultant

“I’ve been at the University for just over three years, and I really enjoy being part of the careers team. I love meeting with students and graduates as they think about their career choices. It’s great to work with such a friendly group of people, both within the careers team and the wider University community.”
