Arab Open University invites applications for a Professor of Linguistics – Teaching Language to Non-Native Speakers, to join its Faculty of Language Studies in Riyadh.

This opportunity will suit an accomplished academic with a distinguished record of university teaching, internationally recognised research and academic leadership. You will strengthen teaching and research in Linguistics, support student success, and contribute to the development of the Faculty within a multicultural, blended and technology-enabled learning environment.

The role

As Professor, you will:

• Deliver engaging undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching in Linguistics, using face-to-face, blended and online approaches.
• Lead and contribute to curriculum development, programme review and the enhancement of teaching, learning activities and assessment.
• Maintain a sustained programme of high-quality research, publish in recognised peer-reviewed journals, and lead collaborative research and competitive funding initiatives where appropriate.
• Provide academic advising and supervise student projects and postgraduate research, including doctoral research where applicable and formally assigned.
• Mentor junior academics and early-career researchers, supporting their teaching, research and professional development.
• Provide leadership in academic quality assurance, accreditation, benchmarking and continuous improvement.
• Develop national and international research collaborations, professional networks and relevant external partnerships.
• Contribute to university committees, institutional priorities, knowledge exchange and community engagement, undertaking leadership responsibilities where formally appointed.

About you

You will hold a PhD or equivalent terminal qualification in Linguistics, or a closely related discipline with an appropriate specialisation, from a recognised institution. Appointment will be subject to the University’s approved regulations.

You will also demonstrate:

• Strong subject expertise in Linguistics and the ability to connect theoretical perspectives with linguistic analysis and relevant applications.
• A distinguished and sustained record of excellence in university teaching, assessment, curriculum development and student engagement.
• An internationally recognised record of high-quality research, peer-reviewed publications and scholarly contributions appropriate to professorial rank.
• Proven leadership in research projects, research groups, scholarly collaborations or externally funded initiatives, where appropriate.
• Extensive experience in postgraduate research supervision, where applicable, and a strong record of mentoring academics and researchers.
• Significant leadership in curriculum and programme development, academic quality assurance and accreditation.
• A strong national and international academic profile, supported by active scholarly and professional networks.
• Effective use of learning management systems and digital teaching tools.
• Proficiency in the language or languages of instruction required by the programme.
• A collegial approach and a strong commitment to academic integrity, ethical research, professional development and student success.
