Head of School, School of Psychology

In Psychology, world-class research feeds into everything we do. Our British Psychological Society -accredited undergraduate degrees and postgraduate courses, including our large and thriving BSc in Psychology as well as cognitive behavioural therapy training, span the key areas of contemporary psychology including cognition, social, clinical, neuroscience, health and developmental.  We also offer professional Doctorates in Educational and Clinical Psychology . In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF), our research rated as world leading (100%) for its societal impact. Our research environment is rated as world leading and internationally excellent and around the world our research is having direct impact, attracting millions of pounds of funding and facilitating a stimulating research environment that inspires our students.

We are looking for a Head of School to drive our strategy and develop a forward-facing and impactful vision that is aligned with the University’s and Faculty’s strategic priorities, objectives, and values. This is an exciting opportunity to take a leading role and be part of the senior leadership team in the Faculty of Environment and Life Sciences.

As the Head you will be responsible for human, physical resources and financial management of the School; continually striving to deliver excellence in research, education, enterprise and innovation, be responsible and accountable for the quality and output of the School as measured by key performance indicators (KPIs).

About you

We are looking for:

  • A strong leader who is passionate to create a positive culture of management, engagement and inclusivity at all levels by motivating, influencing, and persuading others.
  • An outstanding portfolio of research achievements, including sustained publications in high impact journals and sustained funding and experience in research/education/enterprise and programme delivery.
  • Ability to grow our strategic partnerships and help in attracting investment from major research funders.

Corporate Healthcare

As Head of School, you are eligible to access the University’s Corporate Healthcare Scheme for senior staff, subject to the scheme rules. If you elect to join the scheme, the University will pay for the cost of your membership during your term of office, and you can include family members at your own cost. If you continue in University of Southampton’s employment beyond your term of office, you will be able to continue membership of the corporate scheme at your own cost.

Additional Information

This post is offered on a tenured basis for a period of three to five years. At the end of this tenure, the successful candidate will move to a substantive Professorial position within the University.
