Director, University of Nottingham Food Systems Institute
We are looking to appoint a Director to lead the newly established University of Nottingham Food Systems Institute. The Institute will build on over 100 years of investment in research across the food system, with a vision to create a food system which is carbon neutral, environmentally regenerative, economically viable, and that delivers palatable, healthy, and sustainable diets for all.
The Institute will host thought-leaders from academia, larger corporates and SMEs, policy specialist, consumer organisations and other third sector organisations, providing an end-to-end platform to promote and crystallise research and innovation across food systems and forge such ideas into funded projects, enabling the delivery of projects, policies, guidance, and innovations with local, regional, national and international economic and societal impact.
As Director you will develop and implement the Institute’s vision. You will manage the core staff within the institute and build a research community to drive large transdisciplinary grants across the university. You will lead on building strategic external links with industry, policymakers in local and national government, and third sector organisations, and drive international activity at our campuses in China and Malaysia and more widely in such regions as sub-Saharan Africa, the Americas, Europe and the Commonwealth. Such activity will target delivering impact locally, nationally and globally.
To be successful you must hold a higher degree in a relevant area and have in-depth knowledge of Food Systems (components or systems view) to enable the development of new knowledge, innovation, and translation into impact. Additionally, you will have a proven track record in planning and leading the delivery of research and knowledge exchange strategies within complex multi-stakeholder environments, and in securing significant amounts of external funding. Working across the University you will be expected to deliver the development and implementation of large-scale transdisciplinary programmes of research and innovation, and show a demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in all that you do.
At our university, we deliver world-leading research that transforms lives and societies, and provide a global education, with campuses in Asia and the UK. We believe that teams that combine people who have different personal experiences and backgrounds result in decisions and actions with more impact. As a faculty, and as part of the wider university, we are committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion in all our activities. We hold Silver Athena SWAN Awards which recognise our commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion and particularly the advancement of women’s careers in STEM and we encourage candidates from all under-represented groups to consider applying for this opportunity.
